Sometimes I have to remind myself of where I’ve been when I’m overwhelmed by how far I have to go!
Wow, I can’t believe this year is more than 1/2 over. Time is flying by. It’s been a while since I’ve updated my weight loss on the site. That’s because it wasn’t moving for the most part! This morning however, I weighed in at 188.1! Yes, Ladies and Gents, I am finally in the 180’s! That brings me to 60lbs lost in the past 2 years. I know a lot of people can lose that in 1 year, but I tend to bounce around a bit! I should probably do a new before and after picture. My last one was at the 50lb lost mark.
I’m on workout 6 (just 5 more workouts left) in NROLFW Stage 1. While I’m not upping my weight as much as I was at the beginning, I’m still steadily gaining strength!

I’m happy with my numbers so far! I’ve also noticed that my body seems to be changing shape, which is awesome! In July, I cut back on my running. I used to run 3 days a week, but now I’m only running on Saturdays. While I am pleased with my progress (2 miles without stopping!) I have to admit that running is quite boring for me most of the time. So, when I started NROLFW I decided to change up my schedule. Now, I lift weights Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, try all sorts of new workouts on Tuesdays, and run on Saturdays. That gives me 2 days off during the week and has been fun so far. I enjoy trying new things on Tuesdays instead of just going out and running. Let’s look at my workouts for July. The first is the amount of time I spent working out. It went down a bit from May, but on par with the other months:
All workouts for June:
As you can see, I’m not slacking on the exercise! This is new for me. In the past, I would workout hard and diet which would lead to losing 40-50lbs. Then, I’d get tired of watching everything I ate and sweating, so I’d stop. Of course, at that point the weight all came back on and then some! This is the first time in my lift that I have been working out 3-5 times a week for the last 2 years. I don’t want to say that I’ve finally made exercise a habit for fear that I may relapse, but I am definitely more aware of how I feel when I do and when I don’t work out. That is enough to keep me going. If I stop working out for a week, there’s a good chance that I won’t workout again for a long time! It’s just easier to keep going than to stop and try to start again. The same is true in running. No matter how tired you are, it’s easier to push through it and keep running than drop to a walk and try to run again.
How was your June?!
Saturday I met the ladies at Town Market Square and got 3.75 miles in. I wore my new vibrams with the hopes that they’d help with blisters.
Nope….didn’t work. I felt them starting about 2 1/2 miles in. I’m a little bummed, but it may just be that I didn’t let my feet get use to them? I got blisters on the balls of both feet and on the heel of one. I’ll keep wearing them and see if maybe it gets better.
Today was supposed to be an easy day at CrossFit. While it looked pretty easy, it actually kicked my butt pretty good.
We started with 50 Double Unders/200 singles. I did the singles since I can’t do DUs. After about 25 of them I kept hitting my legs with the rope. Guess my rhythm was just off. So, I threw the jump rope to the side and just did it without the rope. As soon as we finished the 200 jumps we started our rounds.
10 Pull Ups (green band)
20 Push Ups
30 Sit Ups
Rest for 1 minute
My pull ups were pretty good. The hardest for me today was the squats. My quads started burning pretty quick on. It wasn’t the hardest workout I’ve done, but it was still hard! Tomorrow and Wednesday we’re supposed to be doing strength and body weight benchmark tests. While I normally try to go Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, I think I’ll go Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Weigh in was Sunday…I’m back down to 199.7. Finally back down below 200…now, to keep going. Want to get below 196 and into the 180’s. 196 is the lowest I’ve gotten since starting crossfit.
Yep yep!! It was Fight Gone Bad again. My score last time was 182. This time around my score was 164…so….that went down. However, I went up on weight on all of lifts.
Wallball 16#, up from 8#
Sumo Deadlift High Pull 45# up from 35#
Push Press 45# up from 35#
Box Jumps 20″ step ups up from 14″ step ups
Plus, add in the fact that it was boiling and I’m at my lowest breathing point (150 on the peak flow meter, lowest before last dilation too). So, I’m going to take it as an even move. We also have a rowing machine now!! Stoked about that. Thankfully, I wasn’t as tired/drained today as I was Thursday.
Here’s the breakdown:
This weekend I bought some Vibram Five Fingers. It takes me about 30 minutes to put them on because my little toes never want to cooperate! I bought these because they supposedly help keep blisters from forming, if they fit correctly. I’ll give them a trial run on Saturday to see how they feel. Once I get them on they are actually pretty comfortable, yet odd looking! Yep…I went with pink…why not?
My eating has been very good this past week. Today was day 8 of no artificial sweeteners, sugar, grains or “white” foods. Mike is doing it with me this time, which seems to help me stick to it more. I don’t think he’s that big of a fan but he’s still hanging in there!
I’ve been happy with my food options available at the local HEB lately. So glad they’re starting to carry more nitrate free/free range/grass fed/organic foods!
Mmmmm….green beans, sausage and kraut!
Sunday was also weigh in day. When I weighed in after my vacation I was up to 206#. Eeek!! I weighed in yesterday at 201.4! Down 4.6#…in one week. Granted a lot of that was probably water weight from cutting out some of the foods, but I’m quite excited about it! We’ll see what this Sunday brings. I bought myself the Wow: Worship CD as a reward. This week if I reach my weight loss goal (1.5#) I get to buy a book!
How are you doing in your fitness journey?
Heidi Ho Good People!
I’m sorry to have disappeared for a week. Last week I spent in a beach house overlooking Holden Beach, NC. It was a much needed break. I did do a couple of benchmark WODs while I was there.

Yeah….I was sore for 3 days afterword. While I didn’t have a medicine ball to squat to, I think I did pretty good. I wanted a workout I could do in my room so I didn’t have my family staring at me!
100 Sit Ups
Finished in 6:59
This one went pretty good. It would have been nice to have an abmat to get more extension. I did these in the living room beside the couch. Every time I sat up I could see my nephews playing on the couch. They didn’t notice me at first but once they did they started making faces every time I popped back up. It was a little distracting but funny. We had also just eaten pulled pork sandwiches for dinner. It’s definitely not a good idea to do that many sit ups after eating. Unfortunately, I got rug burn on my tush from doing so many. That was a little painful for a few days as well. So, not only was I walking funny from the squats but sitting was a little painful at times!
I took the rest of the week off. The gym was going to be closed on Thursday anyway, so I wouldn’t have done the workout if I had been home! lol. I spent the rest of the week reading and relaxing. My brother, sis-in-law, nephews and I all went to play putt-putt on Monday. Then Mom, Dad and I went to Southport and walked around for an hour or so on Tuesday. Other than that we didn’t leave the house.
I got home late Sunday night. That was my last “bad” meal. I ate like a pig all week long. Ok, maybe not a pig as they may have shown more restraint! Monday started me back to making healthier choices. Mike is doing this with me this time, so that will help. Plus, it makes me happy to see him wanting to eat healthier. He’s not out of shape, in fact he runs 4+ miles every day except Sat and Sun, but he eats a bunch of processed crap. Glad to see him working on that. He had a bit of a weekend with his Father (who has had a stroke and has dementia and expressive aphasia as a result) and Mother, so I think that’s what spurred this.
Weigh In: 206#
Ok…confession time. I was 204# before going on vacation, so while I’m glad I only gained 2# while on vacation I am not pleased that I am 10# up from my lowest weigh in so far. Today’s eating went very well. I didn’t have any artificial sweetners either, so I’m going to try to keep them out of my diet. Afterall, they cause a spike in insulin as well, which causes weight gain (or at least causes you to hold on to the weight).
OH Squats 3 (45#)x 3(65#) x 3(75#) x 3(didn’t get to it)
I was partnered up with Tiffany for this exercise and I have to say I was a little frustrated with the outcome. We started with the bar and went up from there. I was only able to get 3 rounds in because Tiffany was struggling to get the bar overhead for her 3rd round. Everyone else was putting their weights up by the time she gave up. She could do it, she just psyched herself out. She kept trying to press the bar up…yeah, that isn’t going to work! Although, I think she could have done it (had 65# originally then dropped her down to 60#) she improved over her last attempt (45#). This time she ended up getting to 55#. I only got up to 75#, which was where I was last time. I’m pretty sure I could have done 80-85# this time. Oh well…next time!
30 Clean & Jerks (70#)
Finished in 7:21
While I went up 15# from my last Grace experience, my time also went up by a couple of minutes. I’m not too upset with that though. Today, I can really feel my back muscles. They aren’t sore…but I can tell they were worked out. That’s what happens when you haven’t touched a weight in over a week I guess! It was very tempting not to workout today, but I made myself go and I’m glad I did. We did these crossovers after the workout. Basically, there is a 25# weight on the floor, you get into push up formation on the right side of the plate and when the timer starts you walk your hands over the plate to the other side and back. We did those in Tabatas. I didn’t do that well (lowest number was 4). My wrist started bothering me a bit. It was probably because of poor form. I had a hard time keeping my butt down!
Our trainer and his girlfriend went to the CrossFit Games in LA this past weekend. He took that opportunity to propose and it was caught on film! So happy for the two of them!
