Today is the last day of October and the end of October’s Going the Distance Challenge. I am happy to report that I made my goal of 50 miles and even added 2 to it! That is the most mileage that I’ve done in a month…ever. My reward was going to be a pair of boots but my calves are too large still to get the ones I’d like. I may end up getting something else instead.
I wasn’t going to, but I decided to go ahead and sign up for November’s Going the Distance Challenge as well. This time the goal is 60 miles. My overall goal is to actually workout more often instead of waiting and having to do 4-6 miles every workout.
So…who all’s with me?!
My hips are quite sore right now. I’m guessing it’s a combination of doing so many more miles than I’m used to and not giving my hips time to strengthen up.
I have Chronic Fatigue that acts up on me at times. Right now it’s high, so my doctor told me to start taking B Complex vitamins to counteract it. Well, I’ve been taking them for about a month now and I have to say I don’t really feel any different. Maybe it just takes a bit to kick in…or maybe my expectations were too high!
I was able to get in 14.5 miles this week. That’s outstanding for me! I still have 4.5 miles to go to reach my 50 mile goal for #OctGTD. So, I have no doubt I’ll make it. I am really very happy about that.
On another note, I weighed in at 225.7 this morning. For those of you following, that means I didn’t gain anything and didn’t lose anything. It’s interesting when you hear people say diet doesn’t really matter, working out does. I’m calling bull on that one. It takes both, I think. My eating hasn’t been very good, but my working out has and I haven’t seen the scale change. So…diet + exercise is important. Yes, in the end it’s just calories in vs calories out, but I think there are other things in play too.
Hope y’all are enjoying cooler weather, wherever you are. It is in the mid 70’s here today!! That’s great considering it’s been in the high 80’s, even 90’s.
Sunday was my 35th birthday. My brother is 2 years (and 1 day) older than me and seems to have a hard time adjusting to getting older. Age has never really bothered me. Turning 21 was exciting because I got to go to Vegas, but I wasn’t really a drinker so I didn’t care about being of “legal age”. 30 was no biggie either. So, Sunday was just another day.
When I think about myself, I picture myself at 28…not sure why, but I do. I don’t think I’ve changed much since then. Physically, anyway (except for the silver hair poking out here and there). I have come to accept there are certain things I can do and certain things I can’t. I’m more confident in my abilities and enjoy trying new things.
My Dad used to tell me “If you’re going to lose weight, make sure you lose the bulk of it before 35. Once I hit 35, my skin stopped snapping back.” So, since I’ve drug ass and not lost the weight I needed to, I guess I’ll test this theory out!
As I mentioned at the beginning of this month, I joined a challenge put together by Robby. I am at 35 miles! That’s only 2 miles shy of my highest mileage…ever…and 15 miles away from my 50 mile goal. I have no doubt I’ll make my goal, but unfortunately, I haven’t lost enough off my calves to get the boots I wanted as reward. Oh well…guess I’ll have to find something else!
Yes, I am embarrassed about my August and September numbers. Last November I only got 3 miles in, I think I’ll beat that this November! Good luck to all of you #OctGTD folks pushing to get it done this week!
I got my 4 miles in yesterday. In fact, I got 4.5 miles in. I walked .25 miles barefoot just to see what it feels like. I have to say that I think I stomp more when I’m barefoot. Not exactly sure how that works since barefoot walking is supposed to make your form more correct. I had thought about getting the Vibram shoes, but I’m not sure if I want to spend the money on that right now.
Since it was a Tuesday and a little after 7 (cst) I decided to watch the Biggest Loser while I worked out. A little background: I used to watch the BL every season. I missed the first season, but watched all of them after that. There on 9 or 10 now…I’ve lost count. In any case, I used to really enjoy the show. It was about learning to care for your body and get healthy. Then, slowly, it started changing so it was more drama than anything else. *cough…heba…cough* I am NOT a person that deals well with drama. I would prefer not to encounter it unless absolutely necessary. That was strike 1.
Then, they started doing the “Never before seen in BL history” every other episode. You’re right…I’ve never seen someone have to ride 26 miles on a stationary bike the 1st day they’re at the ranch. BUT…is that really healthy? These people have just signed up to go to the ranch and it’s obvious they haven’t worked out in a while and you’re going to throw them out there to ride 26 miles? Granted…I think it was 26 for the pair, so 13 each, but that’s still a huge shock for those bodies. Strike 2.
The last strike was when I found myself fast forwarding through most of the show on Tivo. I watched maybe 30 minutes of a 2 hour show. Why? Because I didn’t want to see the drama and they weren’t really giving the watchers good tips anymore. You used to be able to watch the trainers in the gym coach the players and pick up tips you could use. Not anymore…now all you see is Jillian yelling “ARE YOU GOING TO QUIT?” or Bob trying to break someone’s barriers down. Not saying that doesn’t help some people, but I’d rather see what types of workouts they’re doing. Strike 3…not watching it this season.
So…last night’s show didn’t win me back. It’s still drama and yelling and not much substance. I still love seeing people lose weight…but I don’t think it’s necessarily healthy to lose it as quickly as they do. But, they have experts around to make those calls. I can honestly say I don’t miss it. I will probably record the finale just to see the overall outcome…afterall, I love before and after shots.
Tonight I’m going to try to do 2 miles in 30 minutes. My miles lately have been over 15 minutes…so I want to work on getting that down. That way I don’t have to spend over an hour getting 4 miles in!
Ok, first let me apologize for not having a picture of my weigh in this morning as I forgot to grab my camera. I have to say I’m in a bit of shock right now. Last week I weighed in at 219.8, which was down from my first weigh in. This morning I weighed in at 225.1. That’s a gain of nearly 6lbs!!! WTH? There is NO way I ate that much. I wasn’t being 100% good with my family being in and going out to eat, but I didn’t eat that badly.
Let’s look at the math for a bit. It takes 3500 calories excess to gain a pound. That means my excess for last week had to be:
There’s no way I ate that much. So, the only logical conclusion I can come to is I ate more salt than usual and am retaining A LOT of water.
I even walked 9 miles this week (Friday – Thursday). That’s more than the last two months!! *Sigh*
Ok, I’ve had my freak out. Time to put this behind me and work toward getting that scale back down.
How’s it going for y’all?
