March Pages

I realize that I’ve been a bit quiet on this blog about my weight in the past several months (ok since July 2011). You know what it means when someone stops posting their weight, right? Yep, they’ve gained weight and think they can fool you in to thinking they’re still doing well by just omitting that little detail!

In January, I joined the Move More, Eat Well class (digital scrapbooking!) which I’ve mentioned a few times here, here, and here. Since it was the middle of January, all my pages have included weights and measurements at the end of the month instead of the beginning. So, I decided to weigh in on March 16th to get my March measurements. That way when April starts, I think I’ll be up to speed with where I should be.

That being said, I’m going to go ahead and post my March pages now and my April pages when I get them done next week. And….I’m even going to post my measurements. YIKES! In January, I started this class at 207.7lbs. Yep, quite a bit up from my low almost a year ago! Also explains why I haven’t been posting my weigh ins! heh…

Ok, March Page #1:

The text reads:

February was a success as far as exercise goes, however my eating was still poor. My biggest hurdle was stopping the sugar intake. It seemed almost every day I found a way to get some chocolate/candy, whether that was going by Walgreens after lunch or raiding the office stash. One piece just led to more. So, on February 19th I stopped eating sugar all together.

I have no doubt that I am a sugar addict. The more I eat, the more I want. The past 13 days have found me to be very grouchy and grumpy and probably scared most of my co-workers! I still think about how I can sneak in some here and there, but the urge isn’t quite as strong as it was the first couple of days. If I can just stay away I think I’ll be ok.

I also had my first phone consultation with Darlene Kvist, Nutritionist. She is still in the process of writing up my diet but has told me that I need to stay away from gluten grains and dairy for the time being. That means only wild rice, brown rice, and quinoa for grains. No breads! That is goign to be tough too. March will be a tough one.

Click on the photo for an easier to read view. One area where I busted this month was my idea to bring lunch to work more often. Pfffttt…yeah right! I eat out every day for lunch. I prefer to the leave the office than to sit here for 12 hours. While my weight was down to 200.5, which was about 7.2 lbs, I’m behind on my goal. I wanted to lose 50lbs this year (40lbs from my original goal and the extra 10lbs I put on!), which was a little over a 4lb loss per month. That means I should be at 12.5lbs lost so far. However, I’m finally moving in the right direction again, so onward and upward…err…downward!

Wow…March already. How did we get 3 months into 2012 when it feels like Thanksgiving was just yesterday? Shall we take a look at February’s workouts and see how we did?

So, the good news is my eating had more green days (below calorie goal) than red (whoops!). The bad news is, I skipped a whole week (the first week) of working out in February but have managed to start going more consistently again. All in all, I think February went pretty well even though I didn’t lose any weight or inches. Okay, so I lost 1/2 a pound and a 1/4 inch off my arms. However, with all of the candy I ate through January and into February that’s not too shabby!

I think I’m a month behind in MMEW because I started later in January. That’s throwing me off a bit! Will try to adjust. In the meantime, here is one of my pages from Feb.

Reading – Set a scheduled amount of time for reading

The World Wide Web – Stay off of the computer when I get home

Long work hours – Cook most of the meals over the weekend

Poor cooking skills – Challenge myself with different recipes/menus

Technically, these were things I should have been doing for February, but since I was a month behind I was thinking I’d do them for March. So, now I’m all goofed up! I’ll still try to do these for March since I’ve not done any (except the last) all month!

Move More, Eat Well First Pages and Then Some…

First of all, I have to share this page. My friend Michelle showed me this blog post and it made my mouth drop open. Just in case you’re wondering what it’s all about and don’t want to click on the link, here you go.

I borrowed the photo from Steve in a Speedo’s blog, however I highly recommend reading what’s on the original post as well. Shoot, I recommend reading his blog. He’s quite funny.

Now, on to my first pages for Move More, Eat Well that I talked about a couple of days ago.  I’m really enjoying the digital scrapbooking with the provided templates. If I tried to create this page on my own I’d pull my hair out! One of the first pages we were challenged to write was our story and our before picture. You could have taken up more than the 4×6 card for your story but I wanted to try to get mine to fit on the given size.

Excerpt from my story:

As a kid I was “normal” sized until I hit 8 or 9. I don’t remember being too caught up on my weight until a kid in my PE class called me a Lard Ass. We were having to hit a baseball and run the bases (not really playing baseball) and I was having a tough time since my hand-eye coordination wasn’t very good (still isn’t!). The kid yells “Come on Lard Ass…Hit the ball” and while I had no clue what it meant, I knew it was something derogatory with all the other kids snickering and the teacher quickly getting on to him. That is the moment I think my story begins. That one, single moment.

The next page had a statement of intent.

My statement:

Statement of Intent…what are my intentions for this year?

1) Try new forms of exercise.

2) Eat my fruits and vegetables, especially vegetables!

3) Listen to my body and eat when hungry instead of by a clock.

4) Be more adventurous in every day life.

5) Most importantly, I intend to love myself.

For more than a year now I have been going to CrossFit at least twice a week and since last August have been running/walking twice to three times a week. I even completed my second 1/2 marathon on 1/1/2012. What a way to start off the new year, huh?! This year I want to add new forms of exercise to keep things lively and interesting. I’d like to try yoga, some cycling, and maybe even a swim or two if I can find a pool. I’m also going to be more adventurous, so if a friend asks me to go rock climbing I’ll say “sure” instead of “I can’t”.

Vegetables need to make more appearances in my meals. There are many days where I only eat 1 serving, if that. Eeek! That’s no bueno. I’ve also gotten use to eating breakfast when I get to work at 7, then leaving at 11 for lunch and finally eating dinner at 6 or 7 when I get home. I’ll eat even if I’m not hungry. That needs to end. Food is fuel and should be treated as such. If my tank is running low, fill ‘er up! However, if there’s still some gas sloshing around, there’s no need to add more at that time. Finally, I want to love myself. Not that I don’t think I’m a good person, I do. However, I’m constantly criticizing my body and sometimes my intelligence. My “dark clouds” as my husband calls them. My body is a beautiful mechanism and deserves to be treated as such. I am more than my fat stores. I am more than a number on the scale or on a pair of pants. I am more than I give myself credit for. I.am.more.

I hope to post at least one page a month of this journey. I’m having a blast with the digital scrapbooking and can’t wait to see what else I learn from this process!
