Saturday’s come and gone

Oopss…Forgot to post my Saturday blog. Sorry about that. It was quite cool saturday morning. The themometer was reading 37 degrees when we left. Mike dropped me off at Luke’s and left go to run some errands. Clara didn’t show up but Kelly was there. It was good to see her. We started off down the greenbelt trails and over the bridge. I ran the first two times with the entire group, but then had to walk a bit more than the rest. However, I didn’t let that stop me from running here and there. I was happy with how well I did. Yes, it is behind everyone else but this isn’t a competition! I couldn’t figure out how to get my foot pod to read with my garmin…so I only tracked my time and heart rate. My max heart rate was around 173, so I know I was pushing it. According to my nike+ I went over 2.5 miles.

I got back to the “yoga” area about the same time as everyone else. In my rush to get out of the house on time I forgot to grab my mat. Thankfully we didn’t do a lot of stretches that required us being on the ground. A couple of the other ladies forgot their mats too so they just moved to the side and didn’t do any of the stretching but were sniggering at me because I was shaking like a leaf for the plank pose. Somewhat ticked me off…I kept thinking “well, get your butt down here and let’s see how you do”. But, I managed to keep my temper under control and didn’t say a word to anyone.

Mike picked me up and we headed back to the house. It was a gorgeous day and I was looking forward to spending some quality time with my Dad. I put the groceries away, jumped in the shower, and was getting ready to post my exercise when Dad pulled up the driveway. He came in and said “hi” to Mike, then we were off for the Woodlands’ Waterway. (I’ll be a posting a detailed description of the waterway, complete with pictures, on my other blog. I’ll put the link up here when I’m done if you’re interested!). We popped into Huddle & Hudson again and I guess since it was Saturday they had all sorts of samples out. Dad loves him some free samples! So we walked around, tried some of their goodies, and then left. He was wanting to see what all had been added since they had moved. I explained that there were a few stores that had closed down and just a few more than had opened.

We stopped for lunch at Goose’s Acre where I ate a big juicy, cheesy burger. I didn’t eat most of my fries…which probably didn’t save a lot of calories in the long run! After we finished dinner, we walked down the waterway to Market Square and looked around there a bit. We stopped at Johnny Rockets for a drink (ok…I had a strawberry shake). Then we walked the waterway back down to where we parked. I finally got my Garmin to read my footpod. We walked a total of 2.7 miles round trip. I think it may have been a little too much for Dad. He was limping a little bit. He had worked out that morning as well, so I know he was probably stiff.

I couldn’t have asked for better weather. We spent some quality time together and caught up on things. I don’t get to see my parents as often as I would like, so it’s always nice to see them. My Uncle Mark and cousin Cody came by our house to visit with Dad for a bit before he left. He flies back to NC on Wednesday. Thankfully, I’ll be following him up there on Saturday! I will be spending a week with my parents and will be able to see my nephews, brother and sis-in-law. I can’t wait! Yes, I still plan on getting my exercise in and will do my best to eat properly as well. My mother always has a lot of junk food in the house for the boys when they come. It’ll be a challenge.

We are going to the Farmer’s Market and I can’t wait! I plan on trying to get a bunch of goodies to make dinner that night. Nothing like locally grown produce for a yummy meal! I’m not sure how often I’ll be able to post to my blogs, but I’ll try to keep on top of them. I will take my netbook with me.

It’s the Eye of the Tiger…

Thursday’s fit club was OK. I really didn’t feel like going, but I made myself go. I knew Kelly would give me a hard time if I didn’t show up, so I got dressed and headed out to the Woodlands. When I got there, Kelly and Carla were no where to be seen. They BOTH stood me up!

We walked/ran the waterway again. This time I went all the way down to where the waterway meets up with the mall. I ran more than I had been at the club, but unfortunately my left leg started bothering me again so I stopped running and walked the rest of the way. Jerry (my coach) thought my shoes may be tied in a bad place for my foot, so it is putting too much pressure on those tendons which is causing the pain. I’m not so sure they’re shin splints as I feel it on the top of my foot to just above the ankle and on the left side of my leg around that ankle bone. So, he suggested I take my laces out of the top hole and try tying it further down. I’ll try that and see how it does.

I finished last on Thursday, but I’m ok with that. I went 2.55 miles and had a pace of 17:17 with a hurting foot. Once I get that pain to go away I think my pace will be much better. I’m going on vacation a week from Saturday, so I’ll have to make sure I get my running in while I’m in NC.

When I finally made it to the end, where the rest of the people were waiting for me, I think I tweaked a hip muscle. Right on the front of the hip. I must have made the turn odd because my leg wanted to give out…but thankfully it was a quick pain and not lasting. It’s a little sore today, like I gave it a good workout. I’m hoping that was all it was…I just fatigued it. Tomorrow is another Fit Club day so we’ll see how it does then. My legs are sore all together today. More than likely it’s because of the running. It’s a good sign! I’m getting stronger! Or so I tell myself…

I did get my Garmin FR60 yesterday. I didn’t have time to set it up and use it, so tomorrow will be my first day using it as well. I have some pictures I’ll post on here later today to show the size. I’m glad it isn’t too incredibly big.

Sunny Saturday

Today was my 4th week of Fit Club. We met at a new park this week, so the trail was a nice change. We basically ran on a greenbelt trail in the Woodlands. I didn’t know that park was there, so now I have a new place I can go to workout when I want to get some fresh air!

I found out that my coach, Liz, is from Katrineholm Sweden which is where my Grandfather (and still some of my family) lived. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if we were related in some way, or if my family knows her family. Katrineholm isn’t that big!

I was able to get some running in today. Interestingly, my walking speed was almost as fast as our slowest runner…that made me feel better! I only finished a couple of minutes behind most of the group and about 30 seconds behind Clara (the last runner). My shin splints came back for a little while, but after walking for a bit they seemed to work themselves out. We went through a couple of areas that were like land mines…there were a ton of Sweetgum Balls, or pods…whatever they’re called:

If you’re not careful and hit these balls just right, your foot rolls and you could possibly bust your butt! We also had to watch out for some doggy doo that irresponsible pet owners left behind. After our walk/run, we did about 25 minutes of yoga. It always seems the yoga is harder than the run, but it seemed a little easier today. My body was still shaking when I tried to do the side plank. It just doesn’t like that move! That’s ok though, because one of these days I’ll be able to do it without shaking.

After my workout, I went home and showered up. Then I went over to the Woodlands’ Waterway to meet my friend Jackie for lunch at Which Wich. While I was there I decided to see what this Hubbell & Hudson was all about:

This place was very nice! It has two stories. The first floor has all sorts of food, including an olive bar, deli area, bakery, and coffee bar. Of course, they had a candy department too that was just tasty to look at!

No, I didn’t buy any candy. However, I did find my favorite tea! HEB used to carry it, but they stopped carrying it a while back. Now I know where to find it again!

They have a grocery area with all sorts of organic foods (they even have free range eggs!) and foods from different countries. My husband was trying to find some vintage pin up girls for a program he was writing a while back (thankfully our Boss nipped that in the bud!) and when I saw these drinks I had to take a picture for him!

In the tea/coffee area they had these “sugar sticks” to sweeten your drinks with:

We called this rock candy as a kid! I think this is just a way to make it ok for adults to have them without feeling bad…lol.

They have a restaurant on the bottom floor as well. I didn’t go in so I’m not sure what food they serve, but I’m sure it’s cheap! Right….

The second floor has a cooking school and an area where you can sit and eat sandwiches or any other food you buy there. All in all, it was a very cool place!

I had a great day! My workout was good, I got off with a warning for speeding (yeah, I know), got to see my friend I hadn’t seen in a while, and found a cool new store!

OH and…I’m getting a Garmin F60 on Thursday when I go back to Luke’s for Fit Club…very excited about that! I have been using my nike+ to track my mileage but I think it’s off. They didn’t have any female watches left, so they ordered one from another store. Thankfully they were able to find a black one. It was either that or bright pink!

Thursday Fit Day

Today was a training day at work. The guy looked a lot like Garth from Wayne’s World and was a little odd. He was stressing me out as we got to the end of the day. Tomorrow will be my last day with him. He’s not a bad guy, just got under my skin.

Since it’s Thursday, it was a fit class day. I tried to run again today, but didn’t get that far. I walked the rest of the way. I’ll be happy when I can actually start getting some running in again. Am I just being a wuss? I don’t think so. I feel like I’m pushing myself. My legs are a bit sore right now from my walk. It was a good walk, all in all. It was a little slower pace than I have been doing but part of that was because I started getting shin splints about 1/2 way through. After walking a bit more, they went away and I could pick the speed back up but the damage was already done.

On another note, I have been in 2nd place on my Nike+ challenge for the past week…well, not after tonight! I’m back in 1st place. I’m a whole 5 100ths of a mile ahead! LOL

My cousin wasn’t at the fit class tonight and she didn’t workout on Tuesday. Hopefully she’s feeling alright. I hope to see her back on Saturday!

Saturday Morning Workout

Today was my second Saturday at the Fit Club. It went really well. I didn’t run since I’m still having congestion issues, but I got a really good walk in. I took some tylenol before the yoga segment and thankfully it worked because I didn’t have a headache of any sort. Yoga went pretty good. My legs were a little shaky on the sideways plank, but otherwise it wasn’t too bad. After yoga we had a “class” on getting fit for running shoes. It was a little bit of a waste of time because all he did was explain what they would do if you came in to be fitted…well, I already did it so I knew what to expect. Kelly and I went to Starbucks afterward and grabbed something to drink. Then it was time to head home.

I got home and Mike asked me if I got my card. “What card?”

“I put it on your car….yep it’s still there. I can’t believe you drove all the way home with that.”

Sure enough, he had left a card under my windsheild wipers for me to find after my workout. It had an old toothless on the front that said “Well butter my butt and call me bisuit” then inside it said “I’m impressed.” He left it for me to say he was proud of me for sticking with this program. Ahhh…Have I told you how much I love my husband?! He’s such a great guy. I just wish I would have seen it and he didn’t have to point it out. I’m sure that took part of the enjoyment away from him.

Dad’s flight has already been delayed an hour because of mechanical problems, so he’ll be in at 4 instead of 3 now. It doesn’t matter though, I’m still looking forward to seeing him!
